Rush SR FAQ

Rush SR FAQ

Straight answers to the questions we get most — cost, competition, and what it takes to race a Rush SR.

How much does the Rush SR cost?

The Rush SR starts at $49,995. Options — livery package, data acquisition, driver aids — are selectable through the online configurator. The configurator shows final pricing before you submit a build order.

What does it cost to race the Rush SR per year?

Annual operating costs average around $14,000 for a full 6-round national season — approximately $150 per hour of seat time. That covers fuel, tires, brakes, fluids, and amortized engine and suspension rebuilds. Entry fees and transport are additional.

See the full breakdown on the Rush SR Running Costs page.

What racing series does the Rush SR compete in?

The Rush SR competes in the GridLife National Championship, a national spec racing series with 6 rounds at tracks including Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen International, and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Events typically draw 25–50 cars on grid, with streaming and social media coverage for every race.

How fast is the Rush SR?

The Rush SR weighs 1,120 lbs and runs 0–60 mph in 3.3 seconds. It’s built around a purpose-designed spec platform — not a converted road car — so power-to-weight and handling are optimized for track use from the ground up. See full specs on the Rush SR spec page.

What tires does the Rush SR use?

The Rush SR runs Nankang AR-1 spec tires — a DOT-legal competition tire used across the series. Every car in the field runs the same tire, keeping the competition about driving rather than budget. Tire cost runs approximately $3,600–$4,800 per season depending on usage and track conditions.

What sprocket should I run?

The factory ships a 15T front sprocket, which works at most tracks. Run 16T at tracks with long straights where you’d hit the rev limiter in 6th — Road Atlanta and Watkins Glen are the common examples. When in doubt, 15T is the safer choice: you’ll occasionally touch the limiter in 6th but the tighter ratios are faster overall at technical sections.

See the sprocket guide in the service manual for a per-track recommendation table and the gear ratio calculator.

What tire pressures should I run?

On Nankang AR-1s, target 26–28 psi hot front and rear. Start cold around 18–20 psi and adjust to hit your hot target. On Hoosier R7s, keep hot pressure under 24 psi — 17 psi cold is a common starting point. Monitor tire temps across the surface (inside/middle/outside) to diagnose pressure and alignment issues.

See the tires page in the service manual for more detail.

How much seat time does a Rush SR season include?

A full 6-round season delivers approximately 18 hours of seat time — practice sessions, qualifying, and 4 sprint races per event. That’s a significant amount of track time compared to most regional series, and it’s included at a running cost of ~$150/hr.

Is the Rush SR suitable for beginners?

The Rush SR is designed for drivers making the step into national-level competition — not raw beginners, but drivers who have track experience and want to race competitively. The spec format (identical cars, same tires, same power) rewards driver skill over budget, which makes the on-track competition fair and learning-focused.

If you’re just starting out, we’d recommend gaining some experience in a regional series first. If you’ve already been competing and want to step up, the Rush SR is a strong fit. Read more in our spec racing guide.

What oil should I use?

Rush Auto Works currently recommends Klotz KV1560R (15W/60 racing oil) based on internal testing that showed improved wear protection over previous recommendations. Important: this oil requires a full warm-up before entering the track. Amsoil Dominator 15W/50 is a well-regarded alternative. Change oil every event weekend.

See the complete fluid list in the service manual.

What is the engine rebuild interval?

The rated interval is 150 hours. In practice, longevity depends heavily on maintenance discipline — proper oil level, the right oil spec, full warm-up before track entry, avoiding over-revs, and adhering to oil change intervals. See the engine maintenance page for full guidance.

How do I rebuild the CV joints / axles?

The most important step is correctly clocking the inner CV race: the indented side faces inboard (toward the center of the axle). Getting this wrong causes early failure. Seal mating surfaces with high-temp RTV. The axle rebuild page in the service manual covers the full procedure, including the upgraded CV hardware TSB from July 2025.

Do I need a racing license to compete?

Yes. A valid competition license is required to race in the GridLife National Championship. License requirements and how to obtain one are covered by the sanctioning body. Contact Rush Auto Works or GridLife directly for current requirements.

Can I race my Rush SR with NASA?

Yes, with the Gen3 6-gallon fuel cell. NASA revised their CCR fuel cell placement rules in 2025, and Rush Auto Works developed the Gen3 cell specifically for compliance. All new cars ship with it. For pre-2026 cars, the retrofit costs $3,150 installed. Contact the shop at (713) 937-0000 to confirm your car’s configuration.

Can I race my Rush SR with SCCA?

Yes. The Rush SR has full SCCA homologation and runs in the ASR (American Sports Racer) class with the Gen3 fuel cell. With enough regional entries, SCCA regions can create a dedicated Rush class. Contact your regional SCCA rep to confirm local rules.

How does the Rush SR compare to Spec Racer Ford or Formula Continental?

The Rush SR is significantly lighter (1,350 lbs vs 1,560 lbs for SRF3 (both with driver and fluids)) and was designed more recently. Running costs are comparable, but the Rush SR competes in the GridLife ecosystem — a larger, more media-active series with national streaming and 25–50 car grids. That grid density and visibility is difficult to match in most regional spec formulas.

See the detailed breakdown: Rush SR vs FF1600 and series comparison.

What is included with the Rush SR purchase?

The Rush SR ships race-ready with all equipment required for GridLife competition. Full specifications and included equipment are detailed in the configurator. Options like data systems, livery packages, and additional safety equipment can be added at order time.

How do I order a Rush SR?

Use the online configurator to select your options and submit a build order. Rush Auto Works will follow up to finalize your build and walk through the process. There’s no hard sell — the configurator exists so you can see exactly what you’re ordering and what it costs before committing.

What should I look for when buying a used Rush SR?

Key things to check: engine hours and oil change history, brake system condition (ask specifically about the brake upgrade kit from the October 2025 TSB), CV joint condition, fuel cell spec (Gen3 for NASA/SCCA), fire suppression system (Lifeline is the current spec), and chassis repair history. Ask for the service history log and cross-reference it against the service bulletins page to confirm all applicable TSBs have been addressed.

Are there arrive-and-drive or rental options?

Several Rush SR dealers offer arrive-and-drive programs at their regional events. This lets you experience the car without buying. Contact your nearest dealer via the dealers page to ask about availability and pricing for your region.

Can I race a Rush SR in sim racing?

Yes. Rush Auto Works runs an official Winter Sim Series on Assetto Corsa during the off-season. It’s a real competition with standings and a genuine Rush SR community. The mod is available at sim.rush.sr.

Where can I see the Rush SR in person?

Rush SR cars compete at GridLife events throughout the season. The 2026 schedule includes rounds at Carolina Motorsports Park, Road Atlanta, Gingerman Raceway, Watkins Glen, Lime Rock Park, and Laguna Seca. Attending a race weekend is the best way to see the car on track and talk to current owners. See the full 2026 schedule.
